What Can You Expect From MTDV?

Last week we have launched a Metadevelopment project and a Patreon campaign with a bold goal to grow world-class Software Engineers.

In this post, I will explain to you what you can expect from the project and what is our vision for achieving the goal.

But first, let me clarify how do we define world-class Software Engineer:

A world-class Software Engineer is someone who knows:

  1. How they create Value for other people in a sustainable and ethical way.
  2. How they fit into the grand scheme of things, namely how Business, Marketing, Engineering and Humanity are related.
  3. How to control their career and personal growth and what lifestyle they want to have.
  4. How to work in world largest companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Amazon, etc. as well as startups and meet professional expectations.

Metadevelopment project consists of three major parts:

  1. MTDV Content
  2. MTDV Club
  3. MTDV Pro

MTDV Content

MTDV Content is our internal kitchen, where we create an educational content for Programmers, Developers and Software Engineers: videos, webinars and articles.

Our content is focused on 4 major topics:

  • Software Engineering
  • Sustainable Lifestyle
  • Lifetime Learning
  • Career Growth

Our main goal with this part is to create and teach a specific philosophy, a basic mindset helping to thrive in our industry.

Here is a high-level overview of topics we gonna cover. The list is not exhaustive and will be extended.

Software Engineering

Lifetime Learning

Sustainable Lifestyle

Career Growth

MTDV Club

MTDV Club is a community of like-minded people who want to be or grow great Software Engineers and create meaningful Value for other people.

You do not need to be a Programmer, Developer or Engineer to join the community.

Right now it is a Slack-based chat which you can join by supporting us on Patreon.

Our goal with this part is to create a supportive and creative community of professionals where everyone can benefit from collective knowledge and experience.

Our Code of Conduct is based on Berlin Code of Conduct.

MTDV Pro

Our ultimate dream is to create a mentoring network called MTDV Pro.

We believe, that the most effective learning and mastering happens when you have a mentor, who knows your context and needs. A mentor, who has a strong philosophy and strategic vision of the industry.

This is why we are creating a body of knowledge (MTDV Content project) and a methodology for mentors, so that they can help other people grow effectively.

Our goal here is to teach everyone an efficient lifetime learning habit, to teach world-class software engineering practices and to give control over personal growth.

If you are totally into experiments, you can become an early adopter of our methodology and get personal coaching in ramping up your career.

If you are a bit more risk-averse, you can wait until the official launch of MTDV Pro and stick to MTDV Club.

Important things to note

I want to clarify some of our intents and set the right expectations.

Learning takes time

It is impossible to "hack the system" and learn things without trying them out and practicing them in a real environment.

We will focus on filtering and reducing content and advice to create a most effective way to master your skills.

But it will take a lot of time to get to the world-class level.

Each of us have spent 10-15 years on studying Software Engineering and related things and we know that it can be done in a more efficient way.

We do not know everything

We believe that there are some basic principles of how our industry works. But also there is always a context, which defines all those tiny details causing the world to be messy and chaotic.

We are humans as well and we cannot be 100% correct.
We will do our best to verify and research those things we are teaching.

It took each of us in average 5 years of mentoring others to figure our some basic and fundamental things we put into our philosophy.

Give honest feedback and stay critical

Our goal is to find practical things that work and figure out contexts when those things work.

The advice we give may not work in your particular case!
This is why individual approach and context analysis is so important!
Stay aware and mindful, make experiments, check things and give us feedback!

We focus on principles and fundamental knowledge

There is a lot of great content out there in the Internet.

We won't focus our efforts on teaching hard skills though. You can find an abundance of materials on technical topics in the wild. We plan that our mentors will fill this necessity when we launch MTDV Pro.

We will cover some technical fundamentals which we consider to be essential.

We will include data, sources, and links to great, useful and most effective content into our Body of Knowledge.

By this time you should have a good impression of what we are planning to do. Join us on our journey!
