What do you think is the single most important thing to do when you meet new people, especially someone who you will be collaborating with (like new colleagues, employers, business partners)?
I think the most important thing is to set reasonable expectations.
People should know upfront what they can expect from you and how they can understand your behavior.
This is why I start my new job by introducing myself to my colleagues with this message:
Hey fellows! Today is my first day in Brainly (Berlin office) :) My name is Alexey, but you can call me Alex or Mig. Things you definitely need to know about me: - I like lists. That's why you see this list :) - I have a "bitchy face" , so I always look like a grumpy cat - I like to ask a lot of stupid questions, sometimes several times - I am used to saying "No" when everyone say "Yes", just in case :) - I can become aggressive in my behaviour. I am trying hard to fix that, but if you spot it, please stop me abruptly with some gestures - I may start talking very loud due to some issues with my ears, so feel free to decrease my loudness - I prefer to be explicit about any topic and sometimes I talk like a robot explaining things to 5-years-old. Please, do not take it personally - I do not like talk about sports and cars, but it would be hard to shut me up if I start talking about tech stuff You can discover other things in my blog . I'm looking forward to meeting you all in person. Hope we will have a lot of fun making Brainly better, faster and sexier :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v98CPXNiSk https://www.google.de/search?q=stop+gesture&espv=2&biw=1440&bih=779&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=li5HVamMDNGP7Aa3tIGYDw&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&dpr=2 http://fse.guru
